Top Up Degree

Study at Some of the World's Top Universities!

Graduates from the Centre of Professional Learning can progress to a university programme, either at undergraduate entry level—typically after completing a Level 3 programme—or onto a ‘top-up’ degree, depending on the level of their completed OFQUAL qualification. Generally, Level 3 corresponds to undergraduate entry, Level 4 to the first year of a degree, Level 5 to the second year, Level 6 to graduate level, and Level 7 to postgraduate level.

Upon completing an OFQUAL-regulated programme through the Centre of Professional Learning, students can progress to a variety of universities, including:

  • University of East London
  • De Montfort University
  • Birmingham City University
  • Cardiff Metropolitan University
  • London South Bank University
  • University of Lincoln

The Centre of Professional Learning can provide students with the necessary OFQUAL documentation and transcript. Alternatively, students can visit the OFQUAL website to verify their qualification. Each university will assess applications based on individual merit and in accordance with their specific entry requirements.
University top-up courses require a qualification in a relevant subject, and the chosen course should be closely aligned with the student’s previous qualification. However, it does not necessarily have to be in the same subject area. In many cases, if a student has completed their Level 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 qualification in English, an IELTS may not be required. The flexibility of our programmes provides students with a wide range of career and academic progression opportunities upon graduation from the Centre of Professional Learning. Universities will typically consider a student’s broader experiences and motivations in addition to formal qualifications.

Progression Options

Study in the UK – Full-Time or Part-Time on Campus for Top-Up Degrees or Direct University Entry

A wide range of UK universities accept our qualifications for advanced entry, giving students the flexibility to choose their preferred institution and complete their degree in a shorter timeframe through full-time study. Many universities also offer part-time options, which might include day-release schedules, evening classes, or distance learning. Some institutions even run weekend workshops to accommodate different lifestyles.
Students are strongly advised to check these options directly with their chosen university, as this guidance is intended for general information only. Entry requirements and study formats can vary, so it’s important to confirm the details with the university or a qualified local agent. With so many part-time and flexible learning options available, students are encouraged to explore what each institution has to offer.

Study with UK Universities at Their International Campuses:
Several UK universities have established campuses overseas and may offer advanced entry to local students. These campuses provide the opportunity to study a UK-accredited qualification closer to home. Examples include locations such as Dubai, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and beyond. Students should enquire locally to understand the specific options available.
The United Arab Emirates, for example, hosts a number of UK university branches. Resources like the Guide to Dubai – British Universities offer further insight into what’s available in that region.

Study with Non-UK Universities
Some learners may prefer institutions closer to home or qualifications from outside the UK. Many universities in countries such as Australia, India, and Canada offer distance learning and may recognise equivalent UK qualifications on an individual basis.
In the United States, acceptance of UK qualifications varies by institution and region. While UK advanced entry is generally acknowledged, policies differ widely.

Pursue an AMBA-Accredited MBA
The Association of MBAs (AMBA) accredits top-tier MBA programmes globally. Numerous UK universities are members and offer distance learning options. While direct credit transfer isn’t available, learners holding a Level 6 or 7 qualification from Centre of Professional Learning may be eligible for entry—provided they meet the specific university’s admission requirements. Always confirm details with your preferred university.

University Progression Routes via Awarding Bodies
Our awarding bodies maintain formal partnerships with various universities to support academic progression. Students can complete their degrees on campus or online through approved top-up routes.

Study FULL TIME or PART TIME on campus in the UK for top-up courses or direct entry to University
Most universities will recognise Ofqual credits for advanced entry, allowing students to choose their own university and study full-time over a shorter period. Many universities also offer part-time study programmes, which may include day release, evening classes, or distance learning, with some even providing weekend workshops. Students should confirm these options with their chosen university. These guidelines are for general reference only. Students should always verify the specific requirements with their preferred university or a local university agent before applying. Many universities offer part-time or evening study options, so students should explore these possibilities directly with their chosen institutions.

Some UK universities have overseas campuses and may offer advanced entry to local students for their programmes. For example, UK universities have campuses in Dubai, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and many other locations. Students should check locally for specific arrangements. There are several UK university campuses in the UAE: Guide to Dubai – British Universities. Other examples include campuses in Hong Kong, Cyprus, Mauritius, and various parts of South Asia.

International students wishing to complete their studies in the UK can visit the NARIC website to check qualification equivalencies: NARIC.

Students may prefer to study at institutions closer to their home country or pursue qualifications outside the UK. For example, many universities in Australia, India, and Canada offer distance learning programmes and may recognise equivalent UK qualifications on a case-by-case basis.

Universities in the USA will generally accept UK advanced entry students and equivalent qualifications; however, policies vary significantly between regions and institutions.
