  • teaching, learning and assessment in education and training, such as roles, responsibilities and relationships, using initial and diagnostic assessment to agree individual learning goals with learners, planning and delivering inclusive teaching, creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive teaching and learning environment and assessing learning.

Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is intended for learners aged 19 and over. While there are no specific prior learning requirements, holding a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Teaching may be advantageous. Centres must ensure the qualification is suitable for the age and ability of their learners.

The qualification has been developed to be inclusive, with no unnecessary barriers to access or progression. Entry will be determined through a centre interview, with each learner assessed individually.

To enrol in the Diploma in Education and Teaching, applicants must hold relevant qualifications and/or experience in the subject they wish to teach. Those teaching academic subjects will typically need a degree in their specialist area. There are no strict prerequisites for maths or English qualifications. However, applicants should have the necessary personal skills to meet the academic and practical demands of the programme. They must also be capable of supporting their learners at the required level within their subject specialism.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to study at a minimum of Level 5—equivalent to the second year of a degree programme. Additionally, a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice is required, which must involve group teaching and fulfil specific practical requirements for each unit.
