Qualification Overview

These practical, knowledge-led qualifications have been designed to help beauty therapists enhance their professional skills and competencies by mastering advanced techniques. The aim is to boost employability by expanding the range of treatments they can offer, including: consultation and client profiling, body massage, facial and body electrotherapy, epilation, lash lifting and brow lamination, advanced lash extensions, and intimate waxing. These qualifications will allow beauty therapists to build confidence in their practice while gathering evidence in a realistic work setting.

The Diploma and Certificates are intended to provide formal recognition for those seeking to develop the essential occupational skills required for employment in the beauty and spa sectors. The Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy and its linked Certificates are ideal for learners progressing from a Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification or from the Level 2 Beauty Therapist apprenticeship.

Units

To attain this qualification, a learner must successfully complete nine units in total. This includes all eight mandatory units and at least one unit from the optional section.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology – Learners will acquire knowledge of the structure and function of body systems and their interdependence, as well as absolute and relative contraindications and related pathologies.
  2. Implementing Health, Safety, and Hygiene – Learners will apply advanced knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene practices by researching legislation, policies, and procedures. They will analyse and refine these policies to ensure safe and hygienic practices within the salon, for themselves, and for clients during treatments.
  3. Client Consultation and Profiling – This underpins all practical technical units. Learners will conduct thorough consultations to develop detailed client lifestyle profiles, enabling them to create tailored wellbeing experiences and holistic therapy treatment plans that meet individual needs and achieve desired outcomes.
  4. Body Massage – Learners will develop the skills to perform Swedish-style body massage, including techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, frictions, and vibrations. They will learn the benefits and effects of massage, adapting rhythm, speed, and pressure to suit client comfort and treatment goals.
  5. Facial Electrotherapy – Learners will provide facial treatments using technologies such as galvanic, microcurrent, microdermabrasion, low-intensity LED light (below 500mW), skin-warming devices, radiofrequency/high-frequency (3KHz–300GHz), lymphatic drainage equipment, and ultrasonic to enhance and maintain skin condition.
  6. Body Electrotherapy – Learners will administer body treatments using electrical muscle stimulation, galvanic, microcurrent, microdermabrasion, low-intensity LED light (below 500mW), skin-warming devices, radiofrequency/high-frequency (3KHz–300GHz), lymphatic drainage equipment, and ultrasonic to improve skin and body condition.
  7. Lash Lifting and Brow Lamination – Learners will perform semi-permanent eyelash lifting and brow lamination treatments, altering the structure of lashes and brows using chemical lifting and fixing agents. They will also safely correct over-lifted lashes.
  8. Advanced Semi-Permanent Lash Extensions – Learners will apply individual and Russian-style eyelash extensions, perform maintenance, and safely remove extensions without damaging natural lashes.
  9. Epilation – Learners will safely remove unwanted hair using galvanic, shortwave diathermy, and blended electrical epilation techniques.
  10. Intimate Waxing – Learners will perform intimate waxing treatments using advanced techniques to safely and effectively remove unwanted hair from intimate areas.
  11. Holistic Head, Neck, and Shoulder Massage – Based on traditional Indian head massage principles, learners will provide tailored treatments for the scalp, face, neck, décolleté, and upper shoulders to meet individual client needs.
  12. Thermal Therapy Massage – Learners will deliver body massage treatments using thermal therapy equipment, including handheld tools or preparations requiring heating or cooling before application.
  13. Wellbeing and Holistic Therapy – Learners will create personalised wellbeing and holistic treatments, blending essential oils for therapeutic experiences.
  14. Advising on Products and Services – Learners will develop the skills to promote, recommend, and instruct on products and services, enhancing client satisfaction and contributing to business success.
  15. Promotional Activities – Learners will plan, execute, and assess promotional activities, including presentations, exhibitions, digital technologies, and social media. Competently presenting information and engaging with the public while demonstrating skills is key. Learners must ensure their practices align with current policies, procedures, and industry best practices.

Entry Requirements

  • This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years and older who have achieved a Level 2 qualification or apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or have equivalent qualifications and/or substantial industry experience for direct entry to Level 3. Learners undertaking the unit/Certificate in Intimate Waxing must be aged 18 years or older.
  • Centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is suited to the ability of learners.
  • The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression. Entry to the qualification will be through centre interview and learners will be assessed on an individual basis.
