Qualification Overview

This range of practical and knowledge-based qualifications have been created to develop and equip therapists with skills, competencies and expertise in beauty therapy treatments – primarily relating to the face, hands and feet. These qualifications will also enable therapists to gain confidence in practice while gathering evidence in a realistic working environment.

The rationale for the qualifications is to provide recognition for those who wish to gain the necessary skills to enter employment in the beauty industry. Qualifi Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is suitable for those progressing from Level 1 in Beauty Therapy as well as those new to the industry.

Units

To achieve this qualification a learner must successfully complete a minimum of five units, which must include all four mandatory units and at least one other unit selected from the optional units.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Anatomy and Physiology – Learners will understand the structure and function of the human body, as well as common pathologies and their relevance to relative and absolute contraindications for treatment.
  2. Health, Safety and Hygiene – Learners will apply their knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene when preparing for and delivering treatments in a real or realistic working environment.
  3. Client Consultation – This underpins all practical technical units in the qualification. Learners will conduct thorough consultations to determine the most suitable treatment, ensuring it meets the client’s needs and desired outcomes.
  4. Manicure Treatments – Learners will develop the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively use manicure techniques, tools, and products to enhance the appearance of the client’s hands and nails.
  5. Pedicure Treatments – Learners will acquire the skills and knowledge to perform pedicures safely and effectively, improving the appearance of the client’s feet and toenails.
  6. Waxing Treatments – Learners will learn how to use waxing techniques, products, and equipment safely and effectively to remove unwanted hair.
  7. Facial Skincare Treatments – Learners will be able to improve and maintain the health and appearance of a client’s facial skin. They will understand how to personalise treatments using appropriate products, equipment, and techniques based on the client’s skin type, condition, and goals.
  8. Lash and Brow Treatments – Learners will use techniques, products, and tools to safely enhance eyelashes and eyebrows through tinting, shaping, and applying cluster lashes.
  9. Makeup Techniques – Learners will apply makeup tools, techniques, and products—including strip lashes—to correct and enhance facial features, considering the occasion (day, evening, or special event) and lighting conditions.
  10. UV Gel Nail Services – Gel nail products are a highly popular nail finish. Learners will provide UV-cured gel polish services to improve the appearance of the client’s nails.
  11. Basic Business Support – Learners will carry out reception duties, sales, stock management, and related tasks to ensure smooth business operations and customer satisfaction.
  12. Advising on Products and Services – Learners will learn how to promote, advise on, and instruct clients about products and services to enhance client loyalty, satisfaction, and business success.
  13. Freelance Work – Learners will understand the fundamentals of setting up as a freelance stylist, therapist, or nail technician, including time management, marketing, and legal and financial considerations.
  14. Promotional Activities – Learners will learn how to effectively plan, execute, and evaluate promotional activities, such as demonstrations and presentations, including the use of social media.

Entry Requirements

  • This qualification is intended for learners aged 16 and over. While there are no compulsory entry requirements for the Qualifi Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, training providers must ensure that the qualification is suitable for the learners’ abilities.
  • The qualification has been developed to be inclusive, with no unnecessary barriers to access or progression. Admission will be determined through a training provider interview, with each learner assessed on an individual basis.
