Qualification Overview

This suite of practical and knowledge-based qualifications has been designed to develop and equip therapists with the skills, competencies, and expertise required for beauty therapy treatments—particularly those relating to the face, hands, and feet. These qualifications also help therapists build confidence in their practice while gathering evidence in a realistic working environment.

The purpose of these qualifications is to provide recognition for individuals seeking the essential skills needed to enter employment within the beauty industry. The Qualifi Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is suitable both for those progressing from Level 1 in Beauty Therapy and for those new to the sector.

For this qualification, learners must complete nine units in total: all eight mandatory units, plus at least one optional unit.

Learning Outcomes

Anatomy and Physiology – Learners will understand the structure and function of the human body, as well as recognise pathologies and their relevance to relative and absolute contraindications for treatment.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene – Learners will apply their knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene when preparing for and delivering treatments in a real or realistic working environment.
Client Consultation – This underpins all practical technical units in this qualification. Learners will conduct thorough consultations to determine the most suitable treatment for the client’s needs and desired outcomes.
Manicure Treatments – Learners will develop the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively use manicure techniques, tools, and products to enhance the appearance of the client’s hands and nails.
Pedicure Treatments – Learners will acquire the skills and knowledge to perform pedicures safely and effectively, improving the appearance of the client’s feet and toenails.
Waxing Treatments – Learners will learn how to safely and effectively remove unwanted hair using waxing techniques, products, and equipment.
Facial Skincare Treatments – Learners will be able to improve and maintain the health and appearance of facial skin by selecting appropriate products, equipment, and techniques tailored to the client’s skin type, condition, and treatment goals.
Lash and Brow Treatments – Learners will safely enhance eyelashes and eyebrows through tinting, shaping, and the application of cluster lashes using appropriate techniques and products.
Makeup Techniques – Learners will use makeup tools, products, and strip lashes to correct and enhance facial features, considering the occasion (day, evening, or special event) and lighting conditions.
UV Gel Nail Services – Learners will provide UV-cured gel polish treatments to improve the appearance of nails, catering to the growing demand for this popular finish.
Basic Business Support – Learners will carry out reception duties, sales, stock management, and related tasks to ensure smooth business operations and customer satisfaction.
Advising on Products and Services – Learners will learn how to promote, recommend, and instruct clients on products and services to enhance loyalty and contribute to business success.
Freelance Work – Learners will understand the fundamentals of setting up as a freelance stylist, therapist, or nail technician, including time management, marketing, and legal and financial considerations.
Promotional Activities – Learners will learn to plan, execute, and assess promotional activities such as demonstrations, presentations, and social media campaigns.
Threading Treatments – Learners will develop the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively remove unwanted hair using threading techniques.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years and above. Although there are no mandatory entry requirements for the Qualifi Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is appropriate to the ability of learners.
The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression. Entry to the qualification will be through centre interview and learners will be assessed on an individual basis.
